In Egypt, there are more than 120 pyramids. Simply the pyramids are the tombs of the kings of Old and Middle kingdoms in ancient Egypt.
The first pyramid in Egypt is that known as the step pyramid at Saqqara and it dated back to the time of king Djoser of the third Dynasty. It is the first to use stone in building his tomb thanks to his genius architect Imhotep whose achievement became legendary among later generations of Egyptians.
Of course, the most well-preserved and famous are the pyramids of Giza plateau which dated back to the fourth dynasty. By mistake, it is known to the whole world that those pyramids at Giza are one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but in fact, the only one is that of king Cheops and also it is the only world’s wonders still in existence. It is the largest of the Egyptian Pyramids. This pyramid was built over the course of 20 years, with 100,000 men working a three-month shift during the inundation time. Its real height is 147 m but after losing 11 m from its height it become 136m now.
The pyramid of Khefren is smaller than the pyramid of Cheops with a height of 143.5 m and the only one than still having the remaining outer casing of the fine limestone
The smallest of Giza’s plateau is that of king Mycerinus with a height of 66 m but must have been extremely beautiful as it was once coated with pink granite.
Also, we have more pyramids scattered in Egypt at different sites like those of Abu Rawash, Abu Sir, Meidum, Lisht, and Hawara.
